About London

Layout of the City
London is a sprawling city sitting half and half on the river Thames
in south east England. The central area is quite small and it has many
large parks. It also has the most important sights, theatres and restaurants.
The tourist-ridden West End lies includes Soho, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly
Circus, Leicester Square and Regent St. The East End, which used to be
the preserve of the Cockney, is now a cultural melting pot.
There
are interesting inner-city suburbs in North London, including Camden Town
and Islington, and in South London poorer suburbs like Brixton which have
vibrant subcultures of their own.
Unlike many European cities, London feels terribly unplanned and that's
probably because it is, having simply grown and grown over the years.
Geography and Weather
The city is mostly flat and enjoys the usual mild British weather with
generous helpings of rain and cloud. London is a little warmer than the
rest of England thanks probably to the mass of people, buildings and pollution.
Industry
London is a great financial centre with many companies of all types choosing
to have their headquarters there. Tourism is important of course as is
media and fashion.
